COMMON GROUND
John Oddo and his father, Alfonse Oddo, 90, a bladder cancer patient, have been reconnecting since John's mom, Sara, died four years ago. Alfonse can no longer take care of himself and was moved to the Strength Ward at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover. On many occassions John gives a his dad a shave. His grandfather was a barber. John and Alfonse, both raised as Catholics, have found a common bond in the teachings of the Dalia Lama. They were scheduled to meet the Dalia Lama in a private reception on his visit to Rutgers University. Unfortunately, Alfonse passed away a week before the Dalai Lama's visit.
